There are several type of circuits in common use today. They include DDS, E1, T1, Fractional T1, T3, Frame Relay, ISDN, analog and more. Each type has something different to offer. DDS circuits offer up to 56/64K of throughput and are economical. T1 (channelized) circuits offer the versatility of 24 lines of voice, data or both at speeds up to 1.54 Million Bits/Second. Fractional T1 circuits offer the versatility of the T1 but for a portion thereby reducing the cost. Frame Relay is perfect for bursty data. ISDN is a good solution for a small office or home office. Analog circuits are suitable for lower speed connectivity. Modems using analog circuits are found in most lap top or small PC installations. Obviously, the uses for the various circuit types are not limited to those listed. A large network will likely use a combination of several circuit types to obtain the desired results. |
