GDC's COLOSSAS enables service providers and enterprise network operators to rapidly build wide area networks capable of transporting a variety of data, voice, video and multimedia information over one network infrastructure, thus eliminating the need to deploy multiple single purpose networks. At the core of GDC's COLOSSAS is ATM technology, which is the network infrastructure of choice today. GDC's families of Multiplexers and Modems/DSUs provide access options for the COLOSSAS systems architecture.

GDC's COLOSSAS is comprised of three main elements:

bulletAccess - GDC's Universal Access System uses IDSL, HDSL, S-HDSL, T1/E1, and V.34 for high speed, high density access over existing copper loops.
bulletConcentration - GDC Access Concentrators, Bandwidth Manager and Multiplexers provide further grooming and adaptation of Frame Relay, FUNI, IP, voice and circuit data to ATM as well as statistical concentration.
bulletBackbone - GDC APEX® switches provide ATM edge switching for frame relay, FUNI, IP circuit emulation, LAN interconnection, voice and cell relay. GDC's STROBOS cell-only switch provides high capacity ATM backbone switching.

All of the elements of COLOSSAS are managed under a distributed, open network management framework called ProSphere. COLOSSAS components are modular and based on industry standard to enable interconnection with other systems. They can be used individually, as part of any standards-based network.
