The ADTRAN DSU III S4W is a technologically advanced, high-performance data service unit/channel service unit (DSU/CSU). It provides an interface between 4-wire Switched 56 and the customer's data terminal equipment (DTE). The unit supports both synchronous and asynchronous data rates. Synchronous rates supported are 2.4, 4.8, 9.6, 19.2, 38.4, and 56 kbps. Asynchronous data rates are provided from 2.4 to 38.4 kbps and 57.6 kbps. Both EIA-232 and V.35 DTE interfaces are provided for all data rates. Dialing is accomplished either manually (invoking one of the stored numbers) or automatically. Dialing over the DTE interface is supported by AT commands or V.25 bis in-band dialing. A separate DB-25 connector is provided for EIA-366 parallel dialing. Additional features of the DSU III S4W include a DTE-to-service rate matching feature, for both switched and dedicated modes, which allows slower rate DTE equipment to communicate over a higher speed digital line. The unit responds to standard loopback commands from the service provider and provides extensive test capabilities such as V.54 remote loopback. Included are 2047 and 511 BERT test patterns along with four DDS stress patterns (results of which are displayed on a two-line by 16-character LCD display and seven LEDs). The front panel keypad of the standalone unit operates a simple menu structure which accesses setup, selection of test modes, local and remote configuration, manual dialing or automatic dialing from stored numbers. Configuration is also accomplished using AT commands. The rackmount version is configured using the Smart 16/16e Shelf controller card connected to either the ADTRAN Datamate unit or a locally or remotely attached VT 100 terminal. Features
